Small French Operation Will Provide All Sporting Equipment For Euro 2016

With six weeks until the opening of Euro 2016 in France, “a race against time” has begun for the 45 employees of French sports equipment manufacturer Marty Sports, according to 20 MINUTES. The small business, founded by brothers Stéphane and Laurent Martinez, “won the coveted role of furnishing the European championship’s equipment.” Marty Sports will provide Euro 2016 with "competition and training goals, nets, corner poles as well as massage tables, cryo-baths, and red and yellow cards." The two brothers said, “We provide everything.” Marty Sports “recently provided equipment for the European Badminton Championships and the 2015 EuroBasket.” But it was its work on the 2010 World Cup, where Marty Sports provided all of the event’s goals, that “caught the eye of UEFA.” The deal, which is worth close to €500,000 ($575,775), “does not account much for the company” that posts a turnover of €6M ($7M), 20% of which is exports. But Stéphane Martinez said that the deal “was very timely, our brand needed a makeover” (20 MINUTES, 5/2).
