The Canadian Football League Saskatchewan Roughriders named Edmonton Eskimos coach CHRIS JONES VP/football operations, GM & coach (Roughriders).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Former Swedish Allsvenskan side Malmo Manager AGE HAREIDE has been "appointed as Denmarks's new national team head coach." He "takes over from MORTEN OLSEN." Olsen "stepped down after over 15 years in the job following Denmark's 4-3 aggregate defeat to Sweden" in its Euro 2016 playoff in November. Hareide signed a "two-year contract with an option for two further years" (REUTERS, 12/10). ... Former England bowler CHRIS SILVERWOOD has "been appointed as head coach of Essex on a full-time basis." Silverwood "lifted the county from sixth to a third-placed finish in Championship Division Two after standing in temporarily following PAUL GRAYSON's departure in September." Silverwood had been Grayson's assistant since Jan. '14 and was "unanimously" chosen by a panel (BBC, 12/10). ... Premier League side Swansea City parted company with Manager GARRY MONK "after one win in 11 Premier League games." He had been with the club for over 11 years, "first as a defender and then manager since February 2014, when he replaced MICHAEL LAUDRUP." Club Chair HUW JENKINS said, "The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart. ... We hope to appoint a replacement as soon as possible." Assistant Manager PEP CLOTET and coaches JAMES BEATTIE and KRIS O'LEARY have "also left the club." Former Swansea player and long-time coach at the club ALAN CURTIS "is expected to be in charge of the team for Saturday's Premier League match" at Man City (BBC, 12/9). ... Scottish Pro12 rugby side Glasgow Warriors head coach GREGOR TOWNSEND signed a "two-year contract extension" with the club to remain with the team until June '17. Townsend stock "has risen considerably since transforming his team" into Pro12 champions and he has "finally ended speculation" about his future by "penning the new deal with Scottish Rugby." Townsend -- twice named Pro12 coach of the year -- joined Glasgow from the national team set-up in '12 and "in the years following has led them to the semifinals, the final and then last year's Belfast triumph over Munster" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 12/10).
