Malaysian Golf Association Partners With World Sport Group To Promote Malaysian Open

The Malaysian Golf Association roped in the World Sport Group "as the new promoter for the Malaysian Open on a three-year term," according to Tan Ming Wai of THE STAR. The MGA "parted ways with GlobalOne." The MGA and WSG "are now in the midst of discussions with several stakeholders on the staging of next year’s Malaysian Open." MGA President Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor said that "all the details would be finalised within a month." But he hinted that "the Malaysian Open is likely to be held in the middle of next year to avoid a clash with the MCM." Anwar "also assured that the event will continue to appeal to the world’s top golfers." Anwar: "We will retain the $3 million prize fund as well as the existing 22 playing spots for local players. ... Time is running out and we are working doubly hard to secure a new title sponsor. It could be more than one" (THE STAR, 8/24).
