Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer Says Red Bull F1 Deal 'Improbable'

Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said that the automaker has had plenty of approaches from F1 teams "wanting to bring the brand back to the sport but the chances of a deal are improbable at best," according to REUTERS. The former Nissan exec, who joined the classic British sportscar marque last year, recognized the rumor mill was "running wild at Sunday's British Grand Prix but said there were substantial obstacles to any involvement." Palmer said, "The bottom line is that it would be very difficult for us. We as a company don't have the kind of money to go into Formula 1 and make a decent job of it. ... The best I can tell you is that it's improbable. I never say never but it's improbable" (REUTERS, 7/6). AUTOSPORT's Holder & Beer reported Red Bull Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey is working on a road-car project with Aston Martin, amid discussions about a "possible F1 tie-up between the two companies." The road-car deal is a "part of partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Technologies." Sources close to the deal "stress the partnership does not automatically mean they will work together in F1, as Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technologies are separate entities" (AUTOSPORT, 7/6).
