Nike CEO MARK PARKER was "tapped to become the sneaker maker's next chairman, part of a succession plan" for the day when co-Founder PHIL KNIGHT "steps down from the role." As part of the preparations, the 77-year-old Knight will transfer ownership of his shares to a limited liability company, according to a statement. Nike also is appointing TRAVIS KNIGHT, his 41-year-old son, to the board. The process is "expected to lead to a chairman being appointed sometime" in '16 (BLOOMBERG, 6/30). ... La Liga side Valencia Exec President AMADEO SALVO was expected to “officially announce his departure from the club at a press conference on Wednesday.” After two years at the club, first as president, and then as exec president following PETER LIM’s purchase of the club, Salvo will walk away from Mestalla. Valencia Sporting Dir RUFETE will also leave. Disagreements between Salvo and Rufete and Valencia's new owners, “who have come out in favour” of Manager NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO, are the “causes behind the duo's departure” (SPORT, 7/1). ... Sauber F1 has “strengthened” its design team by appointing Englishman MARK SMITH as its new technical director. Smith, 54, was most recently the technical director of Caterham, which collapsed last winter, but has also performed the role for Red Bull, Force India and Jordan (BBC, 7/1).  

COACHES/MANAGERS: Greek basketball club Panathinaikos Athens named Serbian national team coach ALEKSANDAR DJORDJEVIC as its new head coach. Djordjevic, 47, was a point guard as a player. Panathinaikos will be his first post at a club since Benetton Treviso in '11-12 and his first Euroleague post since he coached ARMANI JEANS MILAN a decade ago (Euroleague). ... DANNY BLIND has been named as GUUS HIDDINK's replacement "as head coach" of the Dutch national football team. Blind "had been Hiddink's number two and was expected to take over after Euro 2016." He is "reported to have signed a contract until 2018" (REUTERS, 7/1). ... The BJ-League club Iwate Big Bulls announced thatGEOFFREY KATSUHISA is its new head coach. Katsuhisa "steps into the spotlight" following DAI OKETANI's departure after three seasons and three playoff appearances at the helm (JAPAN TIMES, 6/29). ... Former Samoan rugby player APOLLO PERELINI was unveiled as the new coach of the UAE Rugby Federation All-Emirati 'Shaheen' Sevens development squad on Monday. The 45-year-old New Zealand-born Perelini was the "first to represent Samoa at both the Rugby Union and Rugby League World Cups" in '91 and '95, respectively (GULF NEWS, 6/30).
