Brasileiro Side Fluminense Settles 13 Late Salary Payments; President Is 'Optimistic'

This season has "not been easy" in terms of finances for Brasileiro side Fluminense as the club "paid 13 late player and employee salaries on Tuesday alone and it still owes" salaries for the month of April and two months of image rights to players, according to LANCEPRESS. After the loss of sponsor Unimed-Rio, a medical insurance company and partner of the club for 15 years, Fluminense is "still looking for ways to balance finances." Sources said that Fluminense "used part of the funds" from jersey sponsor Viton 44 to settle the late salary payments. President Peter Siemsen has "shown optimism and says debts will be settled in up to two weeks." Siemsen said, "We know that it was a difficult year. ... A change [occured] in our model that all were expecting to be destructive, but we are maintaining good management and operations at the club. We're adjusting, and I believe that in the next two weeks we will have practically everything back to normal. Within the plan we have, for one year, we will have continuous funds and we will not have this type of problem anymore" (LANCEPRESS, 5/27).
