Olympic Notes: Diack Says Russia Will Not Be Barred From Major Athletics Competitions

IAAF President Lamine Diack said that Russia "will not be barred from major athletics competitions" because of allegations of a systematic doping program. Russia "is being investigated by the IAAF ethics commission and the world anti-doping agency" over claims its officials ran such a program. However, Diack said any suggestions Russian athletics competitors could be excluded from the world championships or Olympics events are "a joke" (AP, 4/21). ... Tokyo's Narita Int'l Airport "has built a new terminal with walkways outfitted in the style of indoor running tracks -- a fitting precursor to the 2020 Olympic Games, which the city is hosting." The terminal's foot traffic lanes "are color-coded and use stenciled symbols to represent various airport destinations." The design -- "for which Japanese agency Party can be thanked -- is also a side effect of the project's low budget (there are no moving walkways), and the flights operating from the terminal are mostly low-cost carriers" (ADWEEK, 4/21).
