Conservative Party Pushes For NFL, NBA, MLB Franchises In Britain

Britain's Conservative Party said that "it will push for American football, basketball and baseball franchises to be based in the country," according to the AP. The pledge is featured in the manifesto launched by PM David Cameron on Tuesday "ahead of next month's general election." A study last year by Deloitte, commissioned by the NFL, showed that "a franchise in London could generate" more than $250M a year for the country. The Conservative Party manifesto says, "We will support new sports in the U.K., in particular through greater links with the U.S. National Football League, the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball, with the ultimate ambition of new franchises being based here" (AP, 4/14).
