Dave King Insists Scottish Rangers Will Regain Ownership Of Club's Trademarks

Dave King is confident Scottish Championship side Rangers will "soon have control of their badges again," according to Euan McLean of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The South Africa-based tycoon was reacting to last week's news that revealed shareholder Mike Ashley "now has ownership of the club's trademarks." Ashley, who owns EPL side Newcastle United, "grabbed the badges" as a condition of the £5M ($7.3M) loan he lent Rangers "at the turn of the year." King, however, "is convinced the club will have the crest back in its own hands." He said, "I'm confident this can all be resolved, of course. It's obviously important Rangers has the ownership of its own brands. ... We are looking at all of the commercial contracts that were put in place with the club, that exercise has not yet been completed but once it has been completed we will proceed as what we think is in the interests of Rangers Football Club." King does not believe he or the Ibrox board needs to "build bridges with Sports Direct tycoon Ashley." King: "I don't think there has to be more dialogue because for me Mike Ashley is not an issue and never has been. The relationship is with Sports Direct, it's a commercial set of relationships and there is certainly a sense within the fans that these relationships are not fair to the club" (DAILY RECORD, 4/12).
