AFE President Rubiales Says Players Angered By Comments From LFP President Javier Tebas

Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) President Luis Rubiales addressed Spanish Football League (LFP) President Javier Tebas' claim on Monday that he was speaking on behalf of the players, according to MARCA. Rubiales: "We are angered that a president of La Liga would say he represents professional football when discussing problems. As footballers, and I suspect referees and managers too are part of professional football, just like the clubs, and we are not represented by them, we have another body." Rubiales added, "We will determine our position and make it fully clear what we as footballers think." He also said that he is calling for a meeting of all team captains in La Liga and the second division on April 16, and that he would "most likely" invite representative from third-tier teams as well. Regarding the centralization of the sale of TV rights, Rubiales said that "we have asked for information of the draft [proposal] and we have received nothing. They have not involved us, they have neither given us any information nor asked for any from us. I know that the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Ángel María Villar, has also requested information and nothing has been given to him" (MARCA, 3/31).

AFE TO RECEIVE €1M: In Madrid, Luis Martín reported Spain's friendly against the Netherlands on Tuesday will mean €1M ($1.08M) for the AFE. Villar will give all payments that the RFEF received for the friendly to the players' association. Tuesday's game was the 18th that benefited the AFE, the second outside Spain (EL PAIS, 4/1).
