Henley Royal Regatta Partners With Sunset+Vine, YouTube For '15 Broadcast

The Henley Royal Regatta will be "broadcast for the first time" since '76, according to the HENLEY STANDARD. The "world's most famous" rowing event will be "streamed live online and a daily highlights show will also be available." The Henley Royal Regatta's Committee of Management Tuesday "announced its partnership with Sunset + Vine and YouTube." More than 250 races across the five days will be "covered in high definition and streamed on the royal regatta website" and its YouTube channel. This year's regatta "takes place from July 1 to 5" (HENLEY STANDARD, 3/31). In London, Oliver Brown reported the Henley Royal Regatta, "one of the most resolutely traditional events in sport, is to embrace the digital era." Five-time Olympic champion rower Steve Redgrave said in his first interview since "taking over as Henley’s chairman that it was time to bring the event to a wider audience." Redgrave: "We have nearly 300 races in five days. We wanted to show the action in a way that is new. As it stands, there is not very much rowing coverage on TV at all. It is very expensive to do. You need huge numbers of cameras. But we hope we will have some amazing footage that the sport hasn't seen before" (TELEGRAPH, 3/30).
