Marketplace Roundup: Bundesliga Side Werder Bremen Renews Early With Match IQ

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has announced an early extension to its relationship with Match IQ, a Hamburg-based sports consultancy firm.

Match IQ will continue to assist the team in the planning and execution of friendly games, training camps and the club's global strategic growth until June 2018.

Chinese telecom Huawei has signed a four-year sponsorship deal with the Panamanian FA. The deal includes sponsorship of Panama's national teams and the Panamanian Football League (SOCCEREX, 3/26). ... Brasileiro side Fluminense is "far from financial tranquility" in '15, the first season after "the end of a 15-year sponsorship" with Brazilian insurance company Unimed. The club "predicts a deficit" of R$46M ($14.3M) as a result (UOL, 3/26). ... StarWing Sports Management announced it signed former Wimbledon Champion and former world No. 2 Goran Ivanisevic for exclusive worldwide management. Ivanisevic now coaches compatriot Marin Čilić, who won the 2014 U.S. Open under his guidance. Ivanisevic also mentors and oversees the career of Borna Ćorić, winner of the 2014 ATP Star of Tomorrow Award (StarWing). ... Australian Football League side Port Adelaide named RAA as a premier partner under a new multi-year deal. RAA will be Port Adelaide’s official member partner (Port Adelaide). ... Turkish Airlines on Tuesday became the sponsor for the Macedonia national basketball team. The airline signed a sponsorship deal with the Macedonian Basketball Federation that will enable it to support the Macedonian men's national team for a further year as well as “other basketball teams in different age groups” (DAILY SABAH, 3/25). ... Barcelona announced a one-year extension to its sponsorship agreement with Panasonic. The renewal will see the brand "remain a global partner of the team" (SOCCEREX, 3/25).

WEST BROM TO HONOR ASTLE: EPL side West Bromwich Albion will play in a '68 retro kit against Leicester City on April 11 to honor former striker Jeff Astle, who died from a condition caused by regular blows to the head. The Premier League has granted permission for the club to wear the "same white strip with red socks that West Brom wore in the 1968 FA Cup final when Astle's goal beat Everton." Astle died in '02, aged 59, from Chronic traumatic encephalopathy -- a "progressive degenerative disease commonly associated with boxers and which was once referred to as being 'punch drunk'" (REUTERS, 3/26).
