PyeongChang 2018 Organizers Seeking Director For Opening, Closing Ceremonies

The organizers of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games said Tuesday that "they are publicly recruiting talent to direct the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics and the PyeongChang Paralympic Games that follow," according to the KOREA TIMES. The organizers "will select one for the Olympic ceremonies and another for the Paralympic ceremonies among candidates submitted by recommendation and those who apply in response to their open call." The organizers said the final candidates will pass through thorough screening procedures by a "committee for nominating director," and the directors will be named in May. The move "came after the opening ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games in September was sharply criticized for its reliance on Korean pop stars, and a failure to focus on the value of the competition" (KOREA TIMES, 3/18).
