Scottish Championship Side Rangers Investor Dave King Willing To Undergo SFA Vetting

Scottish Championship side Rangers investor Dave King announced that "he will delay taking the Ibrox throne so Hampden chiefs can fully vet his bid to become Rangers chairman," according to the SCOTSMAN. But before starting his reign, the Johannesburg-based businessman confirmed that he will let the Scottish FA and regulators from the Stock Exchange "determine if he is the kind of fit and proper person they want in charge of Rangers." Former Blue Knight Paul Murray "will be installed as interim chairman while King sets about proving his worthiness." King "can expect to be quizzed on why he was forced to hand the South African Revenue Services a cheque" for £44M in '13 in a bid to stave off a tax investigation. SARS claimed that King owned £149M but he "was spared jail after accepting liability for 41 lesser charges in relation to income tax laws." The development "will not stop the club’s general meeting" going ahead on Friday (SCOTSMAN, 3/5). In Glasgow, Gregor Kyle wrote King has promised "absolute transparency and accountability" as he stands on the "brink of winning the battle" for Rangers. He "arrived in Glasgow shortly before 7pm" Thursday evening ahead of Friday's general meeting. The meeting follows "years of financial turmoil and boardroom skirmishes." King "urged the fans to stick with him as the endgame is played out." King: "I’m very excited. In the last couple of years everyone who has followed this saga will know I’ve made numerous attempts to try to get into a position where we could get the right structure in the board, get the right people in the board to take the club forward" (DAILY RECORD, 3/5). STV reported Rangers CEO Derek Llambias questioned King’s ability "to finance Rangers and to find a nominated adviser to act for the club on the Stock Exchange." Rangers shares "were suspended following a move by its nominated adviser (Nomad) to quit." WH Ireland "resigned with immediate effect on Wednesday." Llambias, arriving in Glasgow ahead of the EGM, said that "he was sceptical of King’s ability to find a nominated adviser." If a replacement for WH Ireland is not found within 30 days, Rangers "would not be able to trade on the AIM Stock Exchange." Arriving at Glasgow Airport, Llambias "was flanked by two bodyguards, who hurried him past waiting reporters." As he headed to a waiting car he said, "Show us your money, Mr. King. ... Ask him, 'Where’s your money, Mr. King? Who is your Nomad?'" (STV, 3/5).
