Event Notes: IPC Athletics To Hold 2015 Marathon World Championships In London

IPC Athletics, the int'l federation for para-athletics, announced that the 2015 IPC Athletics Marathon World Championships will be held in London on April 26 in association with the Virgin Money London Marathon. Although the IPC Athletics World Championships will be held in Doha, Qatar in Oct. '15, IPC Athletics decided on switching the marathon events to London because it better suited the race schedules of the leading marathon racers (IPC Athletics). ... The inaugural Shenzhen Int'l will be held at Genzon Golf Club, in the Longgang district of Shenzhen, from April 16-19. With a field comprising 100 players from the European Tour, 50 players from China Golf Association and six sponsors' invitations, the $2.5M tournament will be played the week after the year's first Major, the Masters (European Tour). ... Australian Football League side Richmond will be a "major beneficiary of the AFL's guaranteed supporter-friendly fixture" with 14 games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground next season and "up to six home Saturday afternoons at its preferred home ground in a return to traditional weekend football." Richmond and Melbourne also "appear to have been successful in their joint push to play each other on the eve of Anzac Day, with the Tigers hosting what both clubs hope will become a regular fixture on the night of April 24" (BRISBANE TIMES, 10/23). ... After six months of national tournaments, the world final of the Danone Nations Cup in Sao Paulo will take place on Nov. 16. The 32 national teams that qualified will “defend the colors of their country on the hallowed turf” of the Arena Corinthians, the opening stadium of the last World Cup. The largest U12 football competition in the world "will bring together 400 young football players" during its final (SPORT 24, 10/23).
