Women's National Basketball League Club Canberra Capitals Slash Ticket Prices

The Canberra Capitals insisted that "slashing ticket prices is designed to 'attract more families to the brand' rather than put more bums on seats" as they look to make the WNBL playoffs for the first time in four years, according to Jon Tuxworth of the CANBERRA TIMES. The price for a family ticket has been halved to A$25 ($22) as the club "looks to improve its affordability and build its young fan base in Canberra's crowded marketplace." Capitals GM Lachlan Searle said  that they are "not willing to rely on the 'Lauren Jackson factor' to fill the AIS Arena stands when she returns from injury a few weeks into the season." Adult tickets have been reduced from A$22 to A$15, and students, pensioners and seniors will pay A$10. Searle: "It's a competitive family market out there and we're pretty conscious we want to get primary school and early-high-school kids to come. The reality is in Canberra there's a lot of entertainment options, not just sport" (CANBERRA TIMES, 10/5).
