Italy's Serie B Yet To Finalize Fixture List As Scheduled Start Date Looms

The Serie B season is "meant to kick off this week, but the final fixture list with 22 teams" has not been finalized, according to FOOTBALL ITALIA. The tournament "underwent changes this summer when Siena and Padova went into liquidation," so it was "originally turned into" a 21-team league. However, an appeal was "successful to expand it back to 22 sides and there is now a battle royal to see who will be given another shot at Serie B." Serie B on Tuesday "published the fixture list with an X filling in for the extra club." This uncertainty "means the opening weekend fixture -- set for this Saturday -- between Latina and X will be postponed to a later date" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/26).
