Football Notes: Scottish Premiership Celtic To Take On Maribor On Wednesday

Scottish Premiership side Celtic will compete in the Champions League playoffs after the Court of Arbitration for Sport "rejected Legia Warsaw's bid to be provisionally reinstated." CAS confirmed on Monday afternoon that it had "denied Legia's initial request and that Celtic will play Maribor in Slovenia on Wednesday night" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 8/18). ... The EPL has announced that Crystal Palace has been fined "in relation to the alleged leaking of information about the Cardiff City team" prior to a game between the sides last season. The EPL board "upheld a complaint from Cardiff," which alleged that team information was "leaked to officials at Palace prior to the match" on April 5, which the south London club won 3-0 (PA, 8/18). ... Rwanda will appeal against the decision to "disqualify them from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player." The country's football federation has confirmed it is "ready to file its appeal and is willing to take the case" to the CAS (BBC, 8/18). ... Calls by semiprofessional Australian club Adelaide City coach Damian Mori for a second A-League club in South Australia "have been backed" by former footballer Milan Ivanovic, who is now "a development coach and assistant senior boss at Croydon Kings after starring for the Adelaide City and the Socceroos." Ivanovic said that "another A-League club will help halt an exodus of SA talent." He said, "I think it's time we had another club to give youngsters more opportunities" (THE ADVERTISER, 8/18).
