Thousands Of Extra Ryder Cup Tickets Go On Sale After Sponsors Hand Back Extras

Corporate sponsors have "sent back an astonishing 3,000 unwanted Ryder Cup tickets," according to Stephen Houston of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. They were "put on sale" at 9am Monday morning. Sponsors and commercial partners have returned the spare tickets -- and organizers said that they "are the last available for the Gleneagles event" on Sept. 26-28. Tickets costing up to £145 ($242) "are available at www.rydercup.com." European Ryder Cup Dir Richard Hills said, “It’s common for a small number of general admission tickets to return once the final round of commercial allocations are complete." In a bid to beat touts, buyers "will have to register their photo on the website before they apply for the tickets" (DAILY RECORD, 8/18). The PA reported VisitScotland said that "there was still accommodation available near Ryder Cup park and ride locations in Stirling, Perth and Balado." The tournament "takes place over six days including three practice days." Hills said, "In addition to the match day tickets, tickets for the practice days are also available via the website" (PA, 8/18).
