U.S. Billionaire Donald Trump Reveals $8M Golf Clubhouse Plan In Aberdeenshire
U.S. billionaire Donald Trump "tabled new plans for a multi-million-pound clubhouse at his Aberdeenshire golf course as he ramps up his bid to host a major tournament," according to the HERALD SCOTLAND. The tycoon "plans to replace the current temporary structure" with a new £5M ($8M) granite building "overlooking his Menie Estate championship links." Trump had vowed "to put all further development at the site on hold over a proposed windfarm in Aberdeen Bay" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 8/7). In London, Jeremy Watson wrote "plans have been lodged for a permanent granite building to replace the temporary one." Trump: “The course has turned out to be a phenomenal success and has received some of the greatest reviews ever given to a golf course. I felt it was only fair that I build a beautiful new clubhouse. It would be disrespectful not to have done so” (LONDON TIMES, 8/7). SCOTLAND NOW reported Trump announced a U-turn, "despite the fate of the windfarm still unclear." Local resident and Trump opponent David Milne said, “He’s never stuck to anything he said he was going to do or not do to date. If he says it is going to cost him £5 million, you are probably looking at nearer to £50,000 [$84,000] knowing his past efforts" (SCOTLAND NOW, 8/7).
