The NBA will stage an exhibition game next August in South Africa. NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum said that all proceeds from the game will go to charity. Tatum added that becoming the first U.S. professional league to play a game on the continent is "just an evolution of our commitment to continuing to bring basketball to the continent of Africa" (NBA). ... The Tajikistan State Committee on Youth, Sports & Tourism said on Tuesday that more than 600 fighters from 50 countries and regions will take part in the World Taekwondo Championship in Dushanbe from Thursday-Monday. It will be the "first time" the event has been held in Tajikistan (XINHUA, 8/5). ... North Korea may host an int'l golf tournament on Mount Geumgangsan next year, a move to "vex South Korean investors." The North Korea Golf Open has been sponsored by Britain's Lupine Travel since '11. Lupine Travel President Dylan Harris said it has "received permission to open such an international tournament for amateur golfers" in '15 at the Mount Geumgangsan course (YONHAP, 8/5). ... Senior Chennai police officials said that a junior cricket team from Sri Lanka that arrived to "participate in a private tournament" was sent back "owing to security concerns." The 16-member team "had arrived from Colombo" on Sunday and was "put up at an accommodation in the city." It was denied permission to "participate in the tournament" (PTI, 8/4).
