Football Notes: Premier League Confirms It Will Use Vanishing Spray This Season
The Premier League will use vanishing spray this season. EPL CEO Richard Scudamore said, "At the Premier League we are open to developments that enhance the competition and it was clear from watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil that vanishing spray benefited referees, players, and all of those who watched the matches" (London INDEPENDENT, 7/30). ... Every member of the 121-strong FA Council -- criticised by FA Chair Greg Dyke for being "overwhelmingly old, white and male" -- will "have to undergo equality and diversity training." The decision was taken by the FA's board last week "as part of a response to the case of referees chief David Elleray, who was ordered to undertake the course after apologising for making offensive comments to Robert McCarthy, a black non-league referee coaching manager" (PA, 7/29).
