Constitutional Judge Backs Bremen State Senate's Proposal Regarding Security Costs

German constitutional judge Peter Müller "has backed the Bremen State Senate in its dispute with the German Football Federation (DFB) and the German Football League (DFL) regarding the financing of police operations," according to the DPA. Müller said, "Sanction does not replace discussion." The senate proposed "to have the DFL and DFB contribute toward security costs at high-risk games." As a reaction to the proposal, the DFB moved the Euro 2016 qualifier between Germany and Gibraltar "from Bremen to Nuremberg." Müller, who is also the former governor of the German state of Saarland, called the discussion necessary and justified. He said, "Football could be so beautiful if there wouldn't be one or two officials" (DPA, 7/29).
