SANTIAGO CAPURRO "was on Monday expected to be named" the new coach of the Argentine women's national field hockey team (LOS ANDES, 6/29). ... Worcestershire was "in mourning on Sunday after the death" of its Academy Dir and former batsman DAMIAN D'OLIVEIRA was announced. The 53-year-old "had been battling cancer." D'Oliveira "played for Worcestershire for more than a decade from 1983, passing 1,000 runs in a summer four times" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/29). ... French second division football club Clermont Foot 63 has appointed former France captain CORINNE DIACRE as its coach, replacing HELENA COSTA. Diacre, who signed a two-year contract, "made 121 appearances for France" between '93-05. She "has been an assistant to the national team for the last seven years as well as managing her former club Soyaux since 2010." Costa "quit after just one day of training after male colleagues sidelined her and left her convinced she was just a 'face' to attract publicity" (PA, 6/28). ... Australian hockey player NATHAN WALKER, 20, "became the first Australian selected in the NHL draft." The Washington Capitals "chose him at No.89 after trading their two fourth-round choices with the New York Rangers for the penultimate pick in the third round." After attending development and training camps with the Capitals during the past two northern summers, Walker "was well known to Washington officials and they were concerned he had attracted the interest of other franchises while playing last season for Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/29). ... Aguri Formula E team has added British racer KATHERINE LEGGE to its driver lineup. She is the first female driver announced for the championships, and will join the grid in September (Aguri).

NEWSPAPERS DOWNSIZE: The Sports Journalists' Association said that at least six sports writers "have been told they are to lose their jobs." They include chief sports correspondent IAN CHADBAND, cricket analyst SIMON HUGHES, athletics correspondent SIMON HART, sailing and cricket writer KATE LAVEN, and GRAHAM CLUTTON, who covered rugby and football for the paper from Wales (London GUARDIAN, 6/27). LONDON TIMES chief sportswriter SIMON BARNES "is leaving the newspaper after 32 years." He claims that "the publisher can no longer afford his wages" (GUARDIAN, 6/27).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
