Great Britain Paralympics Team Selects Training Base For 2016 Rio Games
England's World Cup match venue in Belo Horizonte "has been chosen as the training base" for the ParalympicsGB team in the build-up to the 2016 Rio Olympics, according to SKY SPORTS. The British Paralympic Association signed an agreement on Tuesday with the City of Belo Horizonte and the State Government of Minas Gerais "that will see the team train and prepare in the city." The two main pre-Games training centers for the athletes in the lead up to the Rio Paralympics in Sept. '16 "will be the state's top university, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and state-of-the-art multi-sports club, Minas Tênis Clube." Both "have had sports and accommodation facilities upgraded to make them more accessible for those with disabilites, and the university will offer technical and scientific support to the team." Belo Horizonte "is one of the best connected cities in Brazil -- only an hour's flight from Rio, Sao Paulo and Brasilia -- with favourable year-round temperatures and first class facilities, and is described as an ideal location for sports training and preparation" (SKY SPORTS, 6/24).
