Scottish Football Fans Demand Return Of Alcohol, Safe-Standing Terraces At Games

Scottish fans "want to bring back booze at football grounds -- and they want to stand while they have a bevvy," according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The results of the National Fans’ Survey were published on Sunday and 62% of supporters "are keen on the alcohol ban being lifted at matches." The poll, which was carried out by Supporters Direct Scotland and the Scottish FA, also revealed that 91% of punters "are in favour of safe-standing terraces." Almost 3,000 fans across the country "were questioned in the survey." Last year, SFA President Campbell Ogilvie conceded the issue had to be re-addressed and said, "If people were satisfied that all areas were covered then the SFA would be bound to consider it" (DAILY RECORD, 6/16). The HERALD SCOTLAND reported the majority of women (51.5%) who responded "were against ending the restriction." Drinking "was banned at football games following rioting during the Scottish Cup final" in '80. When asked if they thought the ban had been successful in reducing crowd disorder, almost half (48.28%) of participants "thought it had." Nearly three quarters (72.4%) "were in favour of the introduction of a small scale trial" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 6/16).
