Azerbaijani Businessman Mammadov Completes Takeover Of Sheffield Wednesday
Azerbaijani businessman Hafiz Mammadov "has completed his takeover" of League Championship club Sheffield Wednesday, according to the BBC. Mammadov, founder of the Baghlan Group, "also owns Azerbaijan side FC Baku and French top-flight club Lens." The deal "ends Milan Mandaric's three-and-a-half-year spell as Owls owner, but he will stay on as chairman." Former Portsmouth and Leicester Owner Mandaric, who took over in Dec. '10, "had been openly looking for someone to buy him out for some time, but always insisted he would only sell to someone who could invest in the team." The deal is subject to ratification from the Football League (BBC, 6/10).
