Atlético-Real Madrid Champions League Final Draws 11.8 Million Viewers On Spain's TVE

Spanish broadcaster TVE's coverage of Real Madrid's 4-1 win in the Champions League final against Atlético drew a total of 11.8 million viewers, including 11.4 million on TV channel La 1 and 474,000 on website RTVE.es, according to Patricia Cazón of AS. The audience peaked with Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos' goal at 10:36pm local time, with 13.4 million viewers tuned in, which translated to a market share of 67.5%. These "are not, however, the game's complete figures." Figures from TV3 "have not been released" and Canal+'s audience will "not be made public." But "only counting TVE, this final would be the second-most watched Champions League final in history, trailing only the Real Madrid-Juventus match" -- which Real won -- in '98 (AS, 5/25).

ON GERMAN TV: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Nunez Sanchez reported German public broadcaster ZDF "recorded high ratings for its broadcast of the Champions League final." ZDF's pre-game coverage, which started at 8:25pm, was watched by 4.54 million viewers and had a 21.4% share. In the target demographic, the coverage attracted 1.55 million viewers, which resulted in a market share of 19.6% (QUOTENMETER, 5/25). In a separate piece, Nunez Sanchez reported German pay-TV channel Sky, which also aired the game, recorded a market share of 1.4% for its broadcast while an average of 390,000 viewers tuned in. In the target demographic, the pay-TV channel obtained a "very strong" market share of 3% as 280,000 viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 5/25).

MONACO GP: QUOTENMETER's Fabian Riedner reported German free-to-air TV channel RTL "attracted 4.21 million viewers to its coverage of Sunday's Monaco F1 Grand Prix." The number equaled a market share of 33.9%. Last year's race in the principality was watched by 7.45 million viewers. In the target demographic, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg's win obtained a market share of 31.7%. Sky's viewership also decreased in comparison to the '13 edition of the race. Sunday's broadcast was watched by 320,000 viewers. Last year the number was 520,000.
