Football Notes: AFC Asks Associations To Hire Match-Fixing Watchdogs

The Asian Football Confederation "has asked its member associations to appoint integrity officials to report any issues of match-fixing as they battle to clear up corruption in the sport." The AFC, which has 46 full members and one associate member in Northern Mariana Islands, has set a deadline of June 30 to make the appointments, with those hired reporting to the organization's integrity officer Hassan Haider Khan (REUTERS, 5/26). ... The Dutch FA has become the first member association of FIFA to adopt the domestic transfer matching system. DTMS is an online platform modelled on the FIFA TMS int'l transfer matching system, which is provided to all 209 member associations and 6,500 clubs for cross-border player transfers. The system facilitates the domestic transfers of male players by increasing control over all stages of a transfer. The system is expected to go live later this year (FIFA). ... Spanish second division side Eibar "earned promotion to La Liga with a victory on Saturday." Despite earning promotion on the field, the club must raise extra "share capital" of €1.7M ($2.3M) by Aug. 6 or face "being forced down to the third tier." Eibar, Spain Mayor Miguel de los Toyos said the team's "on-field success will give the city national media attention and the city must be capable of taking advantage" (EFE, 5/26).
