League Notes: Int'l Centre For Sport Security To Open Head Office In Europe

The Int'l Centre for Sport Security "is opening a head office in Europe next month." The location of the head office "is not being revealed" until later in the year, but is somewhere "of strategic importance to the ICSS." The not-for-profit organization, which has its headquarters in the Qatari capital Doha, "has a number of European partners in the field of sport safety, security and integrity" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 5/22). ... Furious with Indian Olympic Association Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, the Int'l Amateur Boxing Association said his claims that the IOA was not kept in the loop while approving the group to run Indian boxing were "ill-informed" and created a "misunderstanding." The AIBA said, "AIBA received full support from the IOA with regards to the selection of the new AIBA member for India" (PTI, 5/22). ... New South Wales rugby has turned to "cutting-edge technology" employed by EPL side Chelsea. The Blues "opted for a new data-management product" from British-based company Qlikview (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 5/22).

HORSE RACING NEWS: The Jumps Review Panel "has deemed that the state of the Sandown track was not a factor in the death of Show Dancer" on Wednesday. The panel, which met Wednesday, "will make a series of recommendations to Melbourne Racing Club after the fatal fall" (HERALD SUN, 5/22). ... Horse Trainer David Hall "vented frustration at a fresh wave of high arsenic readings that led to his four horses being withdrawn from the Happy Valley meeting." Gold Tartini, Carry The Zeal, Heroic Guru and Kirov "had to be scratched, as a fresh culprit was unearthed" by the Hong Kong Jockey Club laboratory. The high arsenic levels "are now suspected to have been caused by one, or both, of two separate sources -- a feed supplement and a standard feed" (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 5/21).
