Media Notes: DirecTV To Broadcast IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

DirecTV will broadcast the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in South America and the Caribbean for the next four years. The deal is for live, delayed and highlight rights. It was brokered by Infront (Infront). ... Vietnam Television (VTV) has "secured the exclusive broadcasting rights" for the Brazil World Cup. VTV Editorial Secretariat Head Nguyen Ha Nam said that the national broadcaster "will air the football matches on terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, as well as via the radio, Internet, and mobile devices" (RAPID TV NEWS, 5/19). ... Spanish broadcaster RTVE, which reportedly is facing a debt of €800M ($1.1B), is planning to send 114 of its employees -- 97 from TVE and 17 from National Radio of Spain (RNE) -- to Lisbon for Saturday's Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atlético (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 5/21). ... Singapore businessman Peter Lim's recent acquisition of La Liga side Valencia "has trended globally on Twitter thanks to more than 13 million hits produced by the hashtag #PeterLimWelcometoValencia" (SUPERDEPORTE, 5/21).
