La Liga Side Valencia's Sale Process Expected To Conclude By Saturday; Fans Protest

The committee managing the sale of La Liga side Valencia "returned to meet on Monday to open what will be a decisive week for Valencia, as it is marked as the time to decide and vote on the sale of the club," according to Julián Montoro of SUPERDEPORTE. The committee, which includes Valencia, majority shareholder VCF Foundation, lender Bankia and the Valencian City Council, "has four bidders to choose from: U.S.-based investment firm Cerberus Capital Management, Russian business Zolotaya Zvezda, Chinese multinational Wanda Corp. and Singapore-based businessman Peter Lim." The "decision could be made on Saturday, but that date has not been designated officially" (SUPERDEPORTE, 5/12).

FANS PROTEST: In Valencia, Andrés García reported approximately 500 Valencian fans "protested the sale of the club." Fans held up signs displaying messages saying, "Do not sell, do not sell?" and "Respect the dead that made Valencia," among other sentiments. The protest concluded with a speech by Association of Valencia Small Shareholders President Vicente Vallés, who accused the Valencian City Council of "being most responsible for the club's situation" (SUPERDEPORTE, 5/12).
