The 2009 Slalom World Champion "won some of the sport's most prestigious races in his 16-year career" (KURIER, 5/9). ... Former Spanish long jumper YAGO LEMELA died on Thursday "of a heart attack" (CLARIN, 5/9). ... EPL Arsenal Manager ARSÈNE WENGER has called on UEFA to "clarify its punishments for breaches of Financial Fair Play" and suggested that "clubs such as Manchester City should simply be excluded from the Champions League." Wenger: "You would think you accept the rules and you're in the competition or you don't accept the rules and you're not in the competition -- then everybody would understand it" (London TELEGRAPH, 5/8). ... A Munich court heard on Friday that F1 CEO BERNIE ECCLESTONE promised former German banker GERHARD GRIBKOWSKY, "I will take care of you" in the "run-up to the sale of the bank's Formula One stake to private equity group CVC Capital Partners" in '05. Testifying in Ecclestone's bribery trial, Gribkowsky recounted his dealings with Ecclestone during the banker's period as "chief risk officer at BayernLB, as he negotiated the sale" of its 47% stake in the motorsport series (FINANCIAL TIMES, 5/9). ...
