Bundesliga Side Borussia Dortmund In Talks To Buy Stadium Rote Erde

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and city officials have "in principal reached an agreement over the sale of the Stadium Rote Erde," according to Volmerich & Krampe of DER WESTEN. However, they "have not yet agreed on a purchase price." In addition, the future of track and field events at the stadium "is uncertain." Borussia Dortmund Managing Dir Hans-Joachim Watzke "confirmed the talks." The historic stadium "is located right next to the Signal Iduna Park and is the home of Borussia's U23 team," which plays in the 3rd League. Watzke said that the club "would invest in the stadium," which was opened in 1926. The investments would include "a turf-heating system, new grass and upgrades to the stands." Watzke: "We are willing to pay a fair price. We can't, however, pay vast sums of money for a stadium that is extremely old and which hasn't seen investments for years" (DER WESTEN, 4/30).
