League Notes: India Supreme Court Clears Deck For Announcement Of RCA Poll Result
India's Supreme Court on Wednesday "cleared the deck for declaration of result of Rajasthan Cricket Association elections" and asked the poll observer to declare it on Tuesday. Brushing aside the objection of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which is expecting that the result "might go in favour" of former Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi, a bench headed by Justice A.R. Dave "directed the registry to send the results, filed in a sealed envelope, before it by its appointed observer Justice (retd) N.M. Kasliwal, to the observer to declare the result" (PTI, 4/30). ... All the coaches "will be assessed" by the Sports Authority of India in "order to bring in more accountability and effectiveness in sports coaching." SAI has introduced a new format for the Annual Performance Assessment Report of coaches working with it (PTI, 4/30). ... Int'l Table Tennis Federation President Adham Sharara urged China "to help challengers make the sport more competitive as he was elected to a newly created role as the sport's chairman on Wednesday." Sharara, voted chairman after 15 years as president of the ITTF, called for "five or six years" of Chinese goodwill to boost the sport's appeal (AFP, 4/30).
