Spanish Broadcaster Prisa Chair Cebrián Criticizes Spain's 21% Cultural VAT

Spanish broadcaster Prisa Chair Juan Luis Cebrián criticized the "repeated inability" of authorities to "establish order" in the world of football broadcast rights, according to the EFE. Cebrián called the situation of the "cultural market and the communications media in Spain 'very concerning.'" Cebrián: "In the midst of this situation the cultural IVA [VAT] of 21 percent is an attack on the moral rights of our society and its capacity to develop in the immediate future." He urged government officials to "adopt pertinent measures to defend the rights of businesses, authors and users in an environment that is so difficult for the industry" (EFE, 4/28).
