Contract For 60,000-Seat Stadium In Perth Awarded To Brookfield Multiplex-Led Consortium

The contract to "design, build, finance and manage the new Perth Stadium has been won by a consortium led by Brookfield Multiplex and John Laing," according to Peter Law of PERTH NOW. The Perth State Government on Tuesday announced the "WESTADIUM consortium was its 'preferred respondent' for the 60,000 seat stadium at the Burswood peninsular." Negotiations are "due to conclude in the middle of this year, which is when the as yet unnamed stadium's design will be revealed." WESTADIUM beat "rival bids from Confidem and Evolution," with Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett describing all three as "world class" (PERTH NOW, 4/15). ABC NEWS reported Barnett said that "construction on the stadium was due to start in December and be completed" by '18. He added that the final design "should be revealed later this year when the final construction and operation contracts for the stadium were awarded." The stadium will be owned by the Perth State Government, which will fund the "majority of the design and construction costs" (ABC NEWS, 4/15).
