Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski said that he is confident that the Krakow Olympic bid "will be backed by the public, although earlier he had played down the need to have a referendum." Majchrowski: "Personally, I'm convinced that the organization of the Winter Olympics would be an important step for the development of our city and region. Surveys carried out a few months ago showed that there is support for the idea [of hosting the Games]. But in such an important matter, that's not enough, which is why I am calling on the city council to hold a referendum" (POLSKIE RADIO, 3/24). ... An Indonesian sports official said that the dispute between two national sports bodies, the Indonesia Olympic Committee and the National Sports Committee, "is to blame for the poor performance of the country’s athletes in international competitions." The escalating rivalry "led to the termination of Prima Pratama, a development program preparing young athletes for international events, including the Youth Olympic Games" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 3/25).
