Polish Football Club Widzew Lodz Earmarks $43M For New 30,000-Seat Stadium
With Polish football club Widzew Lodz "eyeing a new stadium, the municipal authorities of Lodz have launched a tender to build a new sports facility" which is designed to "revamp the troubled" club and boost match attendance, according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The decision to build the €31M ($42.9M) stadium was "jointly announced" by Lodz Mayor Hanna Zdanowska and Widzew CEO Pawel Mlynarczyk. The club's current stadium "has a seating capacity of 10,500, of which only 1,192 seats are under a roof." The new facility is expected to "triple the capacity." The "latest move follows earlier attempts" to build a new stadium (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 3/19).
