Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat Says CSA Was Not Relying on IPL Revenue
Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat said that CSA "was not relying on the revenue that would have been generated" had the latest edition of the Indian Premier League been played in South Africa, according to the PTI. Lorgat said that "it made sense" for India to organize the tournament closer to home in the UAE rather than South Africa. Lorgat also denied allegations that "there had been negotiations behind the scenes" in which CSA's initial objections to proposals giving India, Australia and England greater power at the Int'l Cricket Council were reversed in order to secure Indian Premier League (PTI, 3/16). The PTI also reported former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar suggested that the ICC must organize more Tests if the traditional format is to survive "and credited Twenty20 cricket for making the five-day matches more result-oriented" (PTI, 3/15).
