Facility Notes: Bulgarian Side Botev Plovdiv Owner Vassilev Wants To Buy Stadium Land

A sod cutting ceremony "is due to be held on Friday to mark the start of work on the redevelopment of Sixfields Stadium" in Northampton, U.K. The joint venture between the County Group, Northampton Town Football Club and Northampton Borough Council "will result in the creation of new houses, shops and a 100-bedroom hotel in a 33 acre area of Sixfields" (NORTHAMPTON CHRONICLE, 3/11). ... Plovdiv, Bulgaria Mayor Ivan Totev said that Bulgarian first division football club Botev Plovdiv Owner Tsvetan Vassilev indicated that "he wants to buy the land on which the club's Hristo Botev Stadium stands." If the deal goes through, Botev "will become the first Bulgarian club to own its stadium." Vassilev "is willing to pay seven-figure sum for the property" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 3/12).
