Constructor Odebrecht Says Sao Paulo Stadium 98% Complete After Roof Replacement

Brazilian constructors said that "they have installed the giant roofing structure that collapsed after a crane failure at the stadium hosting the World Cup's opening match in three months," according to the AP. The accident late last year "killed two workers and caused significant damage to the Itaquerao stadium." Constructor Odebrecht said Monday that "it took nearly six hours to install" the 420-ton, 77-meter-long metal structure that runs across one of the stadium's goals. Odebrecht said that the Itaquerao is 98% completed and it should be ready on April 15, but FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said recently that "he expects the venue finalized in mid-May" (AP, 3/10).
