UCI Says Venue For 2015 Cycling World Championships To Be Named Soon
Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) President Brian Cookson has insisted that "the uncertainty surrounding the 2015 Track Cycling World Championships will be resolved soon," according to the PA. The calendar for the '14-15 Track World Cup series "is still to be revealed," and the venue for next year's world championships "is unknown." London's Olympic Velodrome "will host the 2016 event." A return to Melbourne, the world championships host in '12, "is possible, depending on whether the state of Victoria offers its financial support." Mexico's Aguascalientes "is another potential host." Its velodrome, which is at altitude, hosted last December's Track World Cup meeting at which "a host of world records were smashed" (PA, 3/3).
