Advertising Standards Authority Bans Beer Ad Featuring Ex-ManU Player Eric Cantona
An advert for Kronenbourg 1664 featuring former ManU player Eric Cantona "has been banned for misleading consumers," according to Sean Poulter of the London DAILY MAIL. The British TV commercial and associated advertisements "used Cantona to poke fun at the celebrity culture around footballers." In the ad the former France int'l declared, "If you find a better tasting French beer, we’ll eat our berets." However, this "French" beer "is actually brewed in Manchester by the Dutch-owned brewer, Heineken." Now, the Advertising Standards Authority "has banned the advertising campaign for misleading drinkers about the true origins of the lager" (DAILY MAIL, 2/12).
