La Liga Clubs Barcelona, Real Madrid Leading Race For New Social Media Followers

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid of La Liga were the most popular European football clubs over the last month of tracking, according to a report conducted by SBD Global. In a comparison of total Facebook and Twitter additions over the course of December, the two clubs were the only ones to see more than 2 million new followers. Closely behind were three EPL clubs to round out the top five, with ManU, Arsenal and Chelsea all topping 1 million new followers. Bayern Munich led the Bundesliga with more than 1 million new followers and Juventus led Serie A with more than 800,000 additions, though league rival Inter Milan added more than 711,000 followers and leads the Italian league with nearly 21 million overall. Paris St. Germain was the only Ligue 1 club to crack the top 15 list, adding almost 550,000 new followers. In the league tracker, the EPL added nearly 2 million new followers to distance itself from the other four leagues tracked.
