DFL CEO Seifert Says Bundesliga Won't Be Able To Catch Up With EPL Financially

German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert said that the Bundesliga "will not be able to catch up to the Premier League in terms of finances," according to BILD. Seifert: "Catching up to the Premier League financially will be impossible within the next several years due to the heavy investments of two domestic media companies, Sky and British Telecom." A Deloitte study ahead of the start of the '13-14 showed that the Bundesliga is the most profitable league in Europe, however, in terms of revenue the German top flight is far behind the EPL. Seifert added, "In addition, the EPL has had a very strong foreign marketing strategy since the end of the '90s. Just in this area, the Premier League's annual revenue is about €1 billion ($1.36B) higher than that of the Bundesliga." Despite this big difference, Seifert said that "there could be a battle between the Bundesliga and the Premier League in the long term" (BILD, 1/7).
