Atlético Madrid Expects New Stadium To Generate More Than $20M In Annual Revenue
La Liga Atlético Madrid's execs "have long been working on everything related to the team's new stadium," the Estadio La Peineta, which it will move into in '15, according to AS. The various "aspects include improved technology -- the club is working to make the new stadium offer the most advanced technological services possible." Another "strong point in the project is related to taking advantage of VIP sections and catering." Atlético believes its stadium will "bring in important revenue for the club," from €15M ($20.7M) to €20M ($27.6M) per season. The "money will come from a greater number of possible season tickets as well as a larger VIP area." The "stadium will have a capacity of 70,000." The current stadium, the Vicente Calderon, holds 54,000. In "terms of commercial exploitation, the club has also put itself in touch with many businesses interested in naming rights for the stadium or sponsoring the building in some way" (AS, 12/30).
