Melbourne Cricket Ground Is Most 'Checked In' Place For Australian Facebook Users

Melbourne "was the most popular place for Australian Facebook users to check-in to this year," with four of the city's entertainment and sporting venues "topping the list," according to Lucy Battersby of the BRISBANE TIMES. The Melbourne Cricket Ground "was the most checked-in place in Australia for the second year in a row" after the stadium hosted thousands of football and cricket fans throughout the year. It was also "the 18th most checked-in place around the world." Melbourne's Crown Casino came second, Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena third and Melbourne's Etihad Stadium fourth. A Rod Laver Arena spokesperson said that the peak times for check-ins on its Facebook page "were the Australian Open, when 700,000 people visit the precinct within two weeks, and concerts throughout the year." The most talked about topics by Australians on Facebook were "vote," "Princess Kate," "cricket" and "Kevin Rudd." The "grand final," "Tony Abbott," "Big Brother" and the "GST" were "also hot" (BRISBANE TIMES, 12/10).
