Anthony Hamilton Says Son Lewis Broke Promise To Give $4M As Payoff After Split

The U.K. High Court was told that LEWIS HAMILTON "reneged on a promise" to give his father up to $4M as a payoff "when they ended their relationship in F1," according to Kevin Eason of the LONDON TIMES. The court heard details, never before revealed, of how Lewis Hamilton dispensed with the services of ANTHONY, the father "who had guided him from go-kart tracks to the F1 world championship" in '08 and huge riches. Anthony Hamilton disclosed that "he had worked for nothing during their relationship." He had set up a technology business to become wealthy in his own right "so that he could remain independent from the vast wealth that poured into his son's bank accounts as he became one of the biggest in F1." Anthony told the High Court that when Lewis decided to end their relationship, he offered a cash gift worth as much as £2.5M. Anthony: "We split in 2010 because at that time Lewis had spent nearly 18 years with me. But he thought, 'You know what, dad, I am fed up listening to you.' He decided he wanted to be his own man'" (LONDON TIMES, 12/6). In London, Tom Cary wrote Anthony Hamilton admitted at the High Court on Friday that "he lied during negotiations over what turned out to be a bogus" €21M ($29M) sponsorship deal that eventually led to him being sacked by Force India driver PAUL DI RESTA. He also said that builders who had installed a security system at his new home in Hertfordshire had "regularly changed the times and dates" on his iPad as he was accused for a third day running of falsifying evidence. Anthony Hamilton is suing Di Resta "for breach of contract and loss of earnings after he was dismissed without notice" by the Scot in '12 (TELEGRAPH, 12/6).
