V8 Supercars' Switch To Twilight Races To Start Friday At Sydney's Olympic Park

The "V8 revolution" will start when Sydney hosts the "first [V8] Supercars twilight race to end the tightest season ever," according to James Phelps of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. The championship is "set to go on the line under the setting sun at Sydney Olympic Park with Ford v Holden to fight it out for the sport's biggest prize at the Sydney 500, beginning on Friday." While the focus is "firmly on the championship, new manufacturer Nissan is looking to sneak under the quartet's guard and steal a win for the Altima in what will be the first of many twilight races." Nissan motorsport's Ricky Kelly was "testing his headlights on Monday ahead of the event and is adamant the late finish will provide for spectacular and unpredictable racing." Kelly: "It will change the whole atmosphere of the event. The look, the feel, it will be a big party." The "switch to twilight racing, with marquee events like the Clipsal 500 and the Gold Coast 600 set to follow," has been pushed by V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton. The "near night racing is expected to increase crowd numbers and also pull in a bigger TV audience with a prime time spot" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 12/2).
